| TorqueLock™ Drill Pipe Running Procedures American Augers DD4 & DD6 TorqueLock™ connections have more torque capacity than any other connection. They actually have reserve torque capacity that is substantially more than the torque ability of many breakout wrenches. This reserve capacity can be, but should not be used. If reserve capacity is used, TorqueLock™ boxes will not bell. However, if the input torque exceeds the ability of the breakout wrench, breakout will be difficult. Difficult breakouts can be time consuming and extremely frustrating. Experienced operators also realize that when they break off a drill pipe pin they normally lose the drill bore and possibly some very expensive down hole equipment. A down hole pipe break is considerably more time consuming, costly and frustrating than a tough breakout above ground. Break off and pull out problems can be avoided with TorqueLock™ drill pipe and utilization of good running procedures. Excess torque on other drill pipe connections will bell boxes and result in substantially and permanently reduced breakout torque. Lower torque may be enjoyed for the short term, however the belling affect on the box will be detrimental to the future life of the drill pipe and overall performance of the connections. Pins will break off or pull out of the swelled boxes, which will result in multiple down hole failures. The time lost on this type of failure will far exceed any time lost from TorqueLock™ breakout.
